Schedule: Part-time, hybrid, 12-16 hours to start
Seeking an experienced Human Resources Specialist to support a growing organization currently employing approximately 50 W-2 employees, with additional independent contractors. This is a hands-on HR generalist position responsible for day-to-day HR administration, compliance, employee relations, benefits, onboarding, and organizational growth. The position will begin at approximately 12–16 hours per week and is expected to increase as staffing and operational needs grow.
Responsibilities
- Manage onboarding, employee documentation, personnel records, benefits administration, leaves, workers’ compensation, unemployment claims, and other day-to-day HR functions.
- Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and leadership, providing guidance on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, policies, and workplace matters.
- Maintain compliance with federal, New York State, and local employment laws, including FMLA, NY Paid Family Leave, ADA accommodations, required trainings, and employment postings.
- Partner with Paychex on employee changes, payroll-related administration, HR reporting, and records while supporting recruiting and hiring activities as the organization continues to expand.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on HR Generalist experience required, including the ability to independently manage multiple areas of the HR function.
- Strong working knowledge of federal and New York State employment laws, HR compliance, employee relations, benefits, leave administration, and HR best practices.
- Experience with Paychex or another HRIS/payroll platform; strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and confidentiality skills required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred but not required; supervisory experience and/or experience in healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, human services, or another regulated environment is a plus.
