Job Title: Automotive Controller Location: Newburgh, NY Salary: $100,000+ depending on experience
Seeking an experienced Automotive Dealership Controller with strong hands-on knowledge of franchised dealership accounting, office operations, DMV/title processing, and HR administration. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring someone who understands the complete dealership accounting operation and can supervise or step into any accounting-office function as needed.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review monthly financial statements, manage month-end and year-end closing, maintain the general ledger, and oversee bank, floorplan, accounting schedule, and cash reconciliations.
Oversee all dealership accounting functions, including AP/AR, vehicle inventory, deal billing, contracts in transit, F&I accounting, manufacturer receivables, parts and service accounting, payroll, and dealership banking activity.
Supervise DMV/title operations, including NYS DMV VERIFI, MV-50 processing, titles, registrations, plates, lien documentation, dealer trades, out-of-state transactions, and title tracking.
Manage and cross-train accounting-office staff while overseeing HR administration, including onboarding, personnel records, payroll setup, benefits, PTO, workers' compensation, unemployment, employee changes, and separation documentation.
Qualifications
Prior experience as an Automotive Dealership Controller, Assistant Controller, Automotive Office Manager, or senior dealership accounting professional; hands-on franchised automobile dealership accounting experience is required.
Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial statements, deal billing, AP/AR, floorplan, vehicle inventory, F&I, contracts in transit, manufacturer receivables, payroll, accounting schedules, and month-end closing.
Strong knowledge of New York dealership DMV/title procedures and NYS DMV VERIFI, with the ability to personally perform or supervise major DMV/title functions when necessary.
Experience with automotive dealership management systems required; Auto/Mate and Toyota dealership experience are strongly preferred. Experience with Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, Dealertrack, Tekion, Microsoft Excel, and HR administration is also valuable.
